EPIC: RIAA trying to chill academic freedom

In their efforts to protect their business model from disruptive technologies, the recording industry has been sending letters to universities, urging them to monitor p2p activities. In addition to legitimate questions regarding fair use of copyrighted material, the RIAA attempt also attacks uses of peer to peer collaboration such as medical research that could lead to cures to diseases. The Electronic Privacy Information Center has written a strong letter to colleges, warning them of the destructive impacts of trying to protect an obsolete industry’s monopolistic practices.
