Today is Global Glogging Day
December 24th, 2002

This just in from Steve Mann:

As we evolve toward Rheingold’s vision of a Global Collective Consciousness

(or shall I say “deconsciousness”) I envision a Global Glog, that captures

the essence of serendipity (i.e. posting without planning).

I’ve been Glogging for 30 years now (only became a Blog in the last 10

years, or so, with the advent of the World Wide Web.

So, more recently, a bunch of us gloggers started this Global Glogging day

(in various forms under various names, but always December 24th) back in 1998.

Today (December 24th), once again, is Global CyborgLogging day.

Cyborg Logs (cyborglogs, cyborGLOGS, or “glogs” for short) are serendipitous diaries that capture everyday life. They need not be posted to the Web (e.g. a private “Personal Safety Device” that’s to a person as the “black box” flight recorder is to an airplane can be shared using only ftpd, rcp, scp, UUCP, etc., to only a small group). But posting them gives rise to all kinds of interesting sociological phenomena.

For example, visually impaired persons running glogs, equipped with online chat, can receive serendipitous remote assistance from “seeing eye people”.

In the inverse situation, a mobility impaired individual can benefit from an able bodied volunteer who remotely makes their cyberbody available.

And Global Glogging might be the next nonweapon for low intensity peacefare.

See Glogs for more information.
