Recommender Systems Gone Bad

Amazon does a pretty good job telling people what kind of books or music they might want to buy, based on the interests of people who bought similar books or music (collaborative filtering). Recommender systems can be gamed, however. According to Science Daily, University of Minnesota Computer Science researchers demonstrate how shills can manipulate users’ opinions.
