Asian Tsunami Disaster - How BEST to Help!
When the Indian Ocean opened and sent waves of destruction, it also gave an opportunity for both the rich and the poor in equal proportion to demonstrate their human kindness and selfless generosity.
The poor humans from India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand having lost lives and livelihood, still many sacrificed their own safety to help their tourist guests from overseas.
The rapid, generous global reaction overwhelmed the world by the speed and magnitude demonstrating that human kindness has no limits!.
Right now, the countries and people who have survived the wrath of Mother Nature need support but in an organized, calculated, logistically practical manner.
The best is to donate CASH generously, but only to United Nations led organizations such as OXFAM, INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS, UNICEF, SAVE THE CHILDREN FUND, and CHURCHES.
Do not send European clothes or blankets etc. Medical supplies are taken care of by the RED CROSS etc. These unwanted or unsuitable gifts are only creating problems for Sri Lanka Customs Authority.
Furthermore, with fuel in short supply and roads under destruction, it has become a logistical nightmare for distribution.
URGENTLY NEEDED-;
1: Water containers, Water storage containers, Water Purification Equipment and Products, Tube Wells for long term use.
2: Cooking utensils
3: Propane Gas Cookers
4: Toilets, Sanitary equipment
5: Torch lights, batteries,
6: First Aid Kits
7: Mosquito Nets
Please DO NOT SEND any toys, which only take time and space!!!!
SECOND STAGE-;
1: Construction and Rehabilitation-: This is major and an immediate need to rehouse those one million who have lost their property.
The recycling of old building material on-site (a highly developed Finnish technology) to produce pre-cast, pre-fabricated low cost housing.
Sanitation, water purification, logistics should play an important priority role.
2: Sponsorships of Orphans - 550+ children who lost their parents-; These children need care, both physical and psychological. Ideally, they should stay within their own communities.
Construction of orphanages and assisting in their well being should be a collective responsibilities. At least several parents risked their lives to save the lives of the tourists and guests.
3: Main Infrastructure Re Construction-; The infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, roads, bridges and railway lines need permanent repairs.
The list is endless. Time is running short. Many lives are currently hanging on a thread.
Please give considered but generous help.

Is it not enough that people have suffered enough in the wake of the recent disaster, do they have to suffer more? I have heard of instances of rape in the camps and abduction from hospitals. This is happening in the south of SriLanka. Relatives from Colombo have gone to the hospital in Galle trying to claim children who have lost their parents only to be told that they have already been claimed. Noone knows where they are. Relatives have been told they have to pay money to have the bodies of their loved ones released. Young girls have been raped. Jewellry has been stolen from dead bodies! These are the horrific tales that somehow escape the international media present in that part of the Island. This situation should be looked into. These people have suffered enough!

FIRST OF ALL THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA SHOULD NOT BE HAPLING THESE POOR PEOPLE IN ASIA. I REALIZE PEOPLE IN AMERICA WERE KILLED OVER THERE, BUT THATS NOT THE ISSUE TO ME. OUR COUNTRY IS SO MUCH IND EBT, I CANT UNDERSTAND WHERE MR. BUSH IS FINDING THE MONEY TO SEND OVER THERE. WE NEED TO HELP OUR COUNTRY FIRST, AND THEN MAYBE OTHERS. AMERICA JUST WANTS TO LOOK POWERFUL, BUT IN REALITY IT IS NOT. WE SHOULD BE USING THE MONEY IN AMERICA TO SUPPORT OURSELVES, RATHER THAN PEOPLE IN ASIA WHO ARE PROBABLY DYING FROM MULTIPLE DISEASES ANYWAYS. THIS IS MY OPINION, AND I DONT CARE WHAT YOU OTHER PEOPLE THINK ABOUT ME. MY OPINION IS RIGHT TO ME AND WHO EVER WANTS TO BELIEVE IT, CAN. THANK YOU.

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY MY DISGUST IN SARAH WHO POSTED HER OPPINION ON HERE ON THE 9TH JANUARY STATING THAT WE SHOULDNT BE HELPING ASIA BECAUSE WE HAVE TO SORT OURSELVES OUT FIRST. AS A YOUNG BRITISH CITENZEN I WAS DISGUSTED TO READ THIS, PLACES LIKE ASIA ARE GOIN TO NEED US A HELL OF ALOT OVER THE NEXT YEAR. WHAT IS SO BAD IN OUR COUNTRY - THINK - YOU HAVNT JUST HAD HALF YOUR POPULARITY WIPED OUT BY A DISASTER FOR ONCE THINK ABOUT OTHERS THAT WILL NEED YOUR HELP MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER NEED IT. PERSONALLY I AM DOING EVERYTHING I CAN FOR THIS CAUSE I THINK IT IS DEVASTATING AND ALL NATIONS SHOULD BE PREPARED TO GIVE SOME KIND OF SUPPORT AS YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ANY OF US ONE DAY AND WE MAY BE COUNTING ON THEM TO SAVE US JUST LIKE THEY ARE TO US AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME!!!
