Gotestgo provides educational content over mobile phones. In response to my recent article at theFeature, Mobile and Open, A Manifesto, one of their employees noted: “I have been looking for a definitive list of carriers that allow/disallow access to certain content, but have been unable to locate one. As a result we have started to compile our own. It’s not very sophisticated, and it only tests whether you can access a WAP site, and then download a Java MIDlet (ours is as good as any for this purpose). Of course there is other functionality it would be great to test, but we have limited resources. If anyone is aware of an existing list, please let me know. I have no desire to reinvent the wheel.
Anyone is free to take a copy of the list for his or her own purposes. There are instructions for downloading a sample MIDlet from your phone directly above the table. We hope the community will take us up on the offer to compile and share the list, and contribute by trying to access the test and report back the results including 1) success/failure 2) carrier, 3) approx. time, 4) optionally their mobile manufacturer and model number.
