Oishii — a del.icio.us pheromone trail for the mindhive
July 22nd, 2005

I admit that sometimes I reload the front page of del.icio.us just to see what random people have bookmarked in the past few minutes. Wouldn’t you know that someone else has automated this perhaps procrastinatory practice: Mastermind Explorer, a newsletter from my pal and astute finder of great new stuff, Robin Good, turned me onto Oishii:

One of the main purposes of social bookmarking systems is allowing people to see what other people are bookmarking. I frequently find things that people are linking to very interesting, and thought it would be nice to slap together a system that could tell me, automatically, what lots of other people have just bookmarked. Thus, oishii was born. Oishii is kind of a del.icio.us mini-zeitgeist. oishii! polls the del.icio.us front page every 5 minutes, and returns all sites bookmarked by at least 30 people. In the spirit of facilitating self-organization, oishii is a kind of pheromone trail allowing me and others to find the resources other members of the hive found useful, interesting, humorous, or for some other reason worth visiting again.
