6th Sense for Meeting People
July 25th, 2005

6th Sense is a new service for mobile phones that enables a phone to find people around you that YOU want to meet. With 6th Sense, a phone ’scans the area around you to find people that have what is “right” for you and notifies you’.

Devin adds to this: Similar in concept to Nokia Sensor it actually is based on a very different architecture, allowing for more flexible and complex usage scenarios. Besides the usual “find people near you”, 6th Sense can do matching on specific criteria between users. Another feature is that users can create several profiles and switch them on the fly, for example a “Business” profile and a “Nightclub” profile.

This service ties the Web to a person or place — a 6th Sense profile is not just a “name tag” but it can include links to your mobile blog, photos, resume, etc.

6th Sense says that it uses a minimal amount of Bluetooth functionality, no actual user data is transmitted via Bluetooth.
