A new lease of life for WiFi in Australia

In Australia “WiFi hotspots in cafes and hotels are about to be given a new lease of life with local bandwidth boosters for 3G wireless data services due to launch later this year”,this news article reports.Telecommunications analysts say WiFi has failed as a standalone business model but both Telstra and Optus have moved to expand their wireless hotspot coverage rapidly in recent months.Telstra is in the midst of a WiFi launch that will see 650 McDonalds (Wireless locations) restaurants around Australia offer WiFi access to their patrons and Optus recently announced it had partnered with hotspot provider,Azure Wireless,to expand its WiFi coverage from 120 to 600 hotspots.Both companies say that they’re aiming to develop mobile technologies that will allow devices to roam from their 3G cellular networks to WiFi networks seamlessly”.
