Hitachi’s mobile coupon proximity service

Mobile Coupon1-1

Long considered to be one of the grails of location based services, the ability to push coupons to consumers as they enter the proximity of a merchant appears to have finally arrived. As reported in MobilePipeline, this service appears to do just that. Hitachi claims to expect substantial growth for both merchant participants with the service and consumer subscribers. I wonder, does this portend the beginning of the worst in marketing to the mobile, or will consumer reaction and corporate ethics prevail and create a highly positive and convenient experience that fosters better business and better marketing between companies and their patrons?
