The massive miles of cassette recording tape that brought music to the young generations of the later 20th century have become a resource for a new fabric that can echo its past. Alyce Santoro, a visual and sound artist, weaves strips of the old cassette tapes into a fabric with which she designs and manufactures garments and accessories. Dragging a Walkman tape head over the fabric can extract audible snatches from old recordings–to literally play your clothes as an audio instrument. The products are displayed at SonicFabric.com and there are more details in an article here from WiredNews.
