Sierra Millman, a journalism student in Chicago, is working on a short magazine story on text messaging spam. She notes: “I’m sure you know that text messaging spam (by which I mean unsolicited mass mailing) is already a huge problem in Asia. As the popularity of text messaging grows in the U.S., do you think it’s going to become a bigger problem over here? One expert I spoke with suggested that texting is an unattractive medium for spammers in the U.S. because they theoretically have to pay too much to send the messages. But that doesn’t seem to have discouraged those who are already trying it.” If you have any insights into this issue, comment here or contact sierraprasada at gmail dot com.
