The New Scientist technology blog says “tread carefully. Japanese scientists have developed a smart carpet that can judge a person’s age and gender simply from the way they walk. The carpet contains a layer of silicon rubber filled with tiny sensors. These experience changes in resistance when someone steps onto the carpet and are sensitive enough to pick up subtle differences in walking forces”.
