MySpace as celebrity’s charity tool
October 2nd, 2006

The AIM Interview of Ashton Kutcher is a webpage linked from Moviefone’s webpage about the new movie The Guardian in which Ashton co-stars as a young Coast Guard swimmer. Included on the AIM page is a complex network of information about Ashton, movie stuff, and advertising. Near the top of the text of the interview, is a link to another sort of network, in this exchange:

Ashton: been cranking on myspace — im up to 6k friends
— donating 1$ to habitat for humanity for each friend — up to 50k
Moviefone: nice!

Just like they are in the above quotation, on the AIM page the words ‘myspace‘ are highlighted so you can click through to Ashton’s MySpace page. Sure enough, on his page is

help
My next movie, THE GUARDIAN, is an exciting action-adventure about the heroism and sacrifice of Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers. Members of the Coast Guard saved more than 33,000 lives during the Hurricane Katrina last year.

For the first 50,000 MySpace users that become a friend of my page, I will donate $1 for each friend to Habitat For Humanity International, an organization that continues to be instrumental in Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts.

BE A FRIEND NOW AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Hey Ashton, nice!
