MacArthur Digital Media and Learning blog and website debut

Today the MacArthur Foundation has forayed for the first time into blogging with its new Spotlight, which begins with a welcome and these words: ‘Today we announced plans to help build the emerging field of digital media and learning, committing $50 million over five years to the effort.’

Debuting online at the same time is the foundation’s new website titled Building in the Field of Digital Media and Learning. The website includes information about ongoing projects and emerging research, a knowledge network of experts, and testimonies from young people–introduced by this general comment:

Digital Media and Learning: The MacArthur Foundation launched its five-year, $50 million digital media and learning initiative in 2006 to help determine how digital technologies are changing the way young people learn, play, socialize, and participate in civic life. Answers are critical to developing educational and other social institutions that can meet the needs of this and future generations. The initiative is both marshaling what it is already known about the field and seeding innovation for continued growth.
