Mobile Social Networking Emerging?
January 4th, 2007

Is mobile social networking finally beginning to emerge? I started anticipating MoSoSo a few years back in regard to “mobile virtual communities.”

‘The rapid rise of online social communities — gathering places such as MySpace and Facebook — has done more than bring the ‚Äòpen pal’ concept into the 21st century,’ said ABI’s vice president of research, Clint Wheelock. ‘It has created a new paradigm for personal networking. ‘

Analysts with the firm are currently predicting that mobile social communities will have attracted over 174 million users by 2011, compared to a projected 50 million this year.

I was talking to a Man in a Pub (as one does), but his company was running the backoffice systems for a number of emerging mobile social networks. What I recall most was that apparently they hate people with typepad phones or PC’s as these people can just text far faster.
