Crumpled books
April 12th, 2007

Photographer Cara Barer’s online exhibit Of Words, Paper, and Shapes, The Book Series is beautiful and provocative to browse. We see shapes made from books in many dimensions. What looking at them brought to my mind were thoughts and emotions that come when we think about digital technologies replacing books. Along with the book images, the exhibit has essays. This is the first brief one:

My photographs are primarily a documentation of a physical evolution. I have changed a common object into sculpture in a state of flux.

The way we choose to research and find information is also in an evolution. I hope to raise questions about these changes, the ephemeral and fragile nature in which we now obtain knowledge, and the future of books.
