Future Of Learning Is Informal And Mobile: Teemu Arina describes a process he calls “informal learning.” By informal learning, he is talking about the kind of learning that takes place outside of educational institutions, outside of the campus, outside of the constraints of textbook and syllabus, where learning is achieved not for the purpose of grades or social standing, but because people want to learn something, together. Just like you and I are hoping to learn something about coworking, about the future of work, about working together as equals. Informal learning is learning together as equals.

As James Corbett points out, it’s almost impossible to consider the experience and technologies of informal learning without drawing parallels - numerous parallels - to coworking. Tools that make it possible for us to learn together in truly boundless learning communities are the same tools that make it possible for us to work together, in mutually supportive coworking environments.

Maybe coworking and informal learning - ok, let’s call it “colearning” - maybe coworking and colearning are even more connected than we think. Maybe, given the tools and technologies of both, the very distinction we make between learning and working is proving to be artificial. Maybe we are entering a time in our history where knowing something is as valuable, as monetizable, as making something, where we can profit from each other’s knowledge as much as we can profit from each other’s success.
