Is Google abandoning JotSpot?
May 3rd, 2007

I was an early beta tester of JotSpot. I use lots of different wikis. But JotSpot has its advantages. However, I have not received any replies to any of the support requests I’ve made in months. Is Google abandoning it? Does anybody know? Does anybody know how I would find out?

Wonder if you’re stuck in the intense radio silence period before the wiki product emerges under the new Google brand…Writely was similarly very quiet immediately before reemergence as Google Docs, although it would be in bad form not to answer queries from Howard Rheingold, for crying out loud. Maybe they think you’re a sock puppet masquerading as Rheingold?

Anyhow — note the projection about the wiki formerly known as JotSpot cited in this recent blogpost.

Thanks, Rayne! Before they went silent, they were extraordinarily responsive. When they were in beta, pre-acquisition, they sent someone to my house to track down what turned out to be an obscure bug related to a minor setting in my browser prefs.

Hi Howard,

The Jotspot team is hard at work porting to Google’s infrastructure. These kind of things always take longer than anybody would like.

I’m curious where you sent your support requests? Did you post to the Jotspot Help Group?

Hi Scott! I used to communicate with Jim Haljun, who answered email via jotspotsupport@google.com. I’m delighted to hear that Jotspot has not been abandoned. The “help” link on my Jotspot instance connects to http://feedback.jot.com/WikiHome, which has had no new postings since June, 2006. I will check out the Google Group.
