It’s amazing how quickly MobileCampNYC came together; had lunch, attended the afternoon sessions and went to dinner with some of the attendees. I covered all the details on my Webmetricsguru.com blog.
It was great to hear Howard Rheingold quoted by a few of the lecturers - I felt I was in the right place this afternoon, in company with the great blogger Dave Winer of Scripting News.
I liked how the location of the pre-conference party last night was sent to me, at the last minute, by the organizers of MobileCampNYC using SMS; it reminded me of all the stuff Howard writes about in SmartMobs, the book.
It was nice to see the merging of Social Media, Social Networking and Second Life - as well as many new developments in Mobile Technology at MobileCampNYC - which was sponsored by Nokia (and, let me say this - the Lunch was fabulous - Nokia spared no expense and underwrote the whole thing - which was organized by a group from RGA, a digital advertising agency with deep roots in Mobile Technology and many mobile accounts.
Unlike a lot of conferences I’ve attended, this one was free - the real barrier to entry was that not that many people knew about it - and with 120 attendees - it was well handled - not too small or too big. We even had someone who flew in from Norway to speak, Timo Arnall, from elasticspace.com.
In this circle, at MobileCampNYC, Howard Rheingold is well known as many attendees read Smartmobs.com, so again, I was in the right place - even though I gave up painting today - for this - I feel it was well worth it.
In a way, by moving between the Second Life Community, SEO Community, Podcasting Community, Art Community, IBM Community and being present at the Mobile Community (and writing for Smartmobs.com), and now being a Director on the Board of the Web Analytics Association - for Community and Social Media - I see myself in a position of synthesis - of connecting all these things together - and while I did not paint today - my thoughts were with painting and my Trip to France, which is happening in about 10 days.
Anyway, read all about my impressions of MobileCampNYC here.
