Been thinking lately about how the green movement has spurred a number of really fantastic, tech-supported innovations that are leading to increased sharing in the real world. Some examples…
1) Giving used stuff away: Freecycle.org has over 3.5 million members and 4,000 communities worldwide that register to give away and get used stuff for free - a kind of free Ebay.
2) Coworking: As in sharing office space equipment, and comraderie - sometimes for a fee and sometimes free. Check out this wiki of available co-working spaces in the US and other parts of the world.
3) carbon trading for individuals: Zerofootprint offers individuals and small organizations/companies a way to monitor and engage in a carbon trade market like the big companies are actively doing.
Many more examples to draw from, but the really intereseting thing is how green consciousness is bringing individuals together to innovate in the conservation and sharing space. Similary, new collaboration technologies are making such sharing feasible in a way we have not experienced before.
