The Presentation as Shared Object

G2P: One of Roeland Loggen’s big take-away’s from MobileMonday in Amsterdam came from, oddly, not the presentations themselves, but from a screen that was adjacent to the presenters’ screen - a companion screen displaying a live Jaiku feed that audience members were using for comments and whatnot, related or unrelated to the presentation itself.

It’s called “backchannel.” Public backchannel. Or, as Loggen would have it, “G2P” - group to presenter. Or, as I would have it, the presentation as a shared object.

Because, from a Coworking perspective, something of a paradigm shift is taking place. The audience, by virtue of the simultaneous, companion presentation of their comments, is presenting, alongside of, and with the presenter. The presentation itself, the very act of presenting, becomes a shared object between the presenter and the audience.

If you follow Jyri’s presentation, you’ll note that he’s taking cues from the audience as he speaks. He’s seeing what they are thinking, seeing how he is being heard. And the audience, in turn, is helping to guide the presentation, sharing the responsibility for an effective, meaningful act of communication. Transforming the very act of communication into a very public act of coworking.
