Nokia Mish Mosh…or just… Mosh, a Social Network for Mobile Devices
August 10th, 2007

Intomobile Phone News reports Nokia launches mobile social network - MOSH by Nokia!  Nokia decided to create a Social Network from scratch (which makes sense) and called it Mosh; Mosh allows for sharing, collecting or downloading various media from any mobile phone as well as your desktop (or laptop).

Nokia defines Mosh as:

“…A user-generated content platform designed specifically for use with any mobile device. Create, upload, collect and share applications (like games, software mashups, videos, blogs, music and photos) all from your mobile.

“..You can upload all sorts of media to your MOSH account - audio, video, games, applications, documents, photos, basically anything you want to add to your profile. As you browse through other user’s accounts, you can “share” any interesting media with your friends (MOSH will send them a link to the file via SMS text or email), “collect” cool media (MOSH will bookmark the file for later viewing or downloading), or “download” anything you find worthwhile.”

Intomobile Phone News mentiones that:

“…Nokia really did a great job optimizing their mobile site (mosh.nokia.mobi - yea, they’re using those oh-so-popular .mobi domains) to work nice and smoothly. Videos download and play in Quicktime format (that means iPhones will be able to view the videos as well!), music files play through the browser, and images are easily viewable through the mobile browser.”

At first, when I read the above, I was thinking … here we go again, a neat Social Networking feature that you can use only if you have such and such Nokia Mobile phone …but it turns out I was wrong this time…. even my Tmobile Sidekick 3 should work with Mosh.

I signed up for the restricted beta by entering my email address at http://mosh.nokia.com/restricted and I’ll have to wait and see if it really works with my Sidekick 3.

But then again, I’ll probably get an iPhone soon, which makes my Sidekick 3 look and act like some cheap gadget clone that doesn’t work too well anymore (if it ever did).
