The HASTAC initiative, supported by the MacArthur Foundation, announced this week that it is holding a $2 million open competition to mobilize digital media and learning. There are two main award categories: Innovation Awards for pioneers and Knowledge-Networking Awards for creative and dedicated communicators. The award website elaborates on the categories and sets out the application process. In announcing the competition this week, MacArthur Foundation President Jonathan Fanton said:

An open competition is an excellent way to identify and hopefully inspire new ideas about learning in an increasingly digital world. We do not yet know how much people are changing because of digital media, but we hope that this competition will help support the most innovative thinking about learning, the formation of ethical judgments, peer mentoring, creativity, and civic participation, all of which are increasingly conducted online.
