As good as it gets: luxury living 1904 and 2007
October 21st, 2007

The St. Regis Hotel in the heart of Manhattan is a Beaux Arts classic New York City landmark now being converted to residences for those who seek and can afford luxury that is as good as it gets. In a clear demonstration of what a difference a century makes, fully half of the advertised amenities (*s, added by me) were not even a pipe dream when Col John Jacob Astor IV built the St. Regis in 1904. Along with a personal St. Regis Butler, advertised features are:

Amenities one-bedroom residence:
- Spacious bedroom with floor-to-ceiling silk-draped bed
- Separate living room
- One to two marble bathrooms with spacious bathtub and separate shower
- Butler pantry featuring sub-zero refrigerator and microwave*
- 32″ plasma flat-screen hideaway television with custom lift system in most bedrooms*
- DVD player in bedroom*
- LCD television in living room and bathrooms*
- Fabrics in saffron and dusty daffodil yellow
- Floor-to-ceiling French windows, deeply carved crown molding and wainscoting, and crystal chandeliers
- Ten-foot ceilings
- Direct-dial phone and fax machine*
- High-speed Internet access*

I still prefer living in 1904 where people are more friendly and honest, the air is clean, no-stress living, foods are free from GMO, people are healthy, less sickness and poverty… need i say more?! :)
