In a delightful New York Times article called Hey Spot, You’ve Got Mail, readers are introduced to the virtual mobbing of dog fanciers and the objects of their fancy. Dogster.com (subtitle: for the love of dog) is explained as a Facebook for canines. There are a number of striking parallels between the online interactions of dogs and their owners, as described here, and the fundamentals of the smart mob science. Interestingly, the founder of Dogster’s name is Ted Rheingold. He is quoted in the article, which I recommend for its insight into the 21st century canine virtual lifestyle.
