For months now, the Netherlands has been in the grip of the anti-Qur’an film announced by politician Geert Wilders [wikipedia]. What exactly is going on in the Netherlands? And why doesn’t the Dutch government ban the film?
Radio Netherlands Worldwide has produced its own short film about the issue in an effort to answer these questions. About ‘Fitna the Movie’ takes a more in-depth look at aspects of Dutch society, such as freedom of speech, aspects that sometimes lead to confusion abroad. The film also seeks to put Geert Wilders himself in perspective.
[Geert Wilders: riding the hype a selection of recent articles on the man who's firmly held the right-wing monopoly in the Islam debate in the Netherlands]
[Chronicle of a film foretold, by Nicolien den Boer and Michel Hoebink]
Very rarely has a film sparked off as much pre-release controversy as Dutch MP Geert Wilder’s ‘Fitna, the movie’. Even without knowing what’s in it, ‘Fitna’ [See Wikipedia for the meaning of this Arabian word] has got the world asking questions. Questions about the man who made it and his motives, about the country he lives in where his film is allowed. Questions about that country’s government – which issues warnings about the film but does nothing to stop it. And questions about the position of Muslims in The Netherlands. The central character in this film is also struggling with these questions, and decides to travel to The Netherlands in search of answers.
Latest news Sunday March 23: The website that Dutch MP Geert Wilders is planning to use to broadcast his film [wikipedia] criticising the Qu’ran has been de-activated by the US host service Network Solutions .
“This site has been suspended while Network Solutions is investigating whether the site’s content is in violation of the Network Solutions Acceptable Use Policy. Network Solutions has received a number of complaints regarding this site that are under investigation“.
Mr Wilders has said that he plans to release Fitna online before the end of this month. The website has been online since the beginning of March.
The Dutch Muslim Broadcasting Association (NMO) proposed to launch the film on their broadcasting platform. NMO has been the only dutch public broadcasting association that offered their facilities. NMO demanded however a preview to make sure that the content is legal and respects the boundaries of the law. The dutch politician refuses to consider the request and said ,,No way, NMO”.

Wilders Movie Website, Network Solutions, Is Caving Into Radical Islam.
Website http://www.fitnathemovie.com/ is down: “This site has been suspended while Network Solutions is investigating whether the site’s content is in violation of the Network Solutions Acceptable Use Policy. Network Solutions has received a number of complaints regarding this site that are under investigation.” Read more: http://muslimsagainstsharia.blogspot.com/2008/03/is-wilders-movie-website-network.html
Muslims Against Sharia neither endorse nor condemn “Fitna”; we have not seen the film. However, we find it disturbing that Network Solution suspended “Fitna” website while hosting a multitude of radical Islamic websites, some of which belong to (or are closely affiliated with) terrorist groups.

While the movie is less than inspired; it does bring up a few good points. What is more interesting is the reaction that it is provoking…. death threats, website suspension, and threats to anyone involved in it… so much so that no one wants to touch it with a ten foot pole. When books and movies come out that are less than flattering towards the other two major religions you mostly get a lot of complaints. Was the da vinci code banned due to death threats? Nope. If nothing else, this does show that Islam is inherently a violent religion. While the vast majority of Muslims may not agree with that aspect of the Quran, it is still there. The problem is that this book is seen as THE word of Allah(at least the suras). This makes discussing it and finding faults in it basically a sin. It is my opinion that Islam is at the same stage as Christianity was in during the middle ages. I just hope that it doesn’t take hundreds of years before an open debate can take place without death threats.

Dear all,
It is very shockingly amazing to hear and read about the contents of a movie by a Dutch parlimentarian. I really feel very sorry for the fate of those voters who voted for such an idiot who rather than bridging the gap among the different cultures and religions of the world is rather spreading hatred in the world by twisting the facts.
The fact should not be forgotten that Mr. Wilders is using the EU `shoulder to fulfill his agendas to bring enemity between Muslims and Christians. What does he really want???
I would like to conclude on the yesterday’s report by Vatican that Muslims have outnumbered Catholics in the world and have become the biggest moajority of the world, may i ask why???
love and peace for all.
What is he getting out of it?

The understanding of Quran and when the certain verses and chapter revealed and overall meaning of it is important. not just cut and paste one verse, as such this movie fitna does. If you read an-nisa verse 89, then you should read verse 90 too.If you read an-nisa verse 56 you should read verse 55 too..so you get wider view.Study the verse given in the movie..you’ll find the truth

I m a Muslim for 35 years. Muslims know well that Islam has this dangerous potentiality and sometimes has no mercy even for its followers. For example if you are born a Muslim, you can not change your religion! You are easily condemned to death by Islamic rules.
History shows that Islam needs blood to be survived. You can see this by numerous religious orders which ask for killing its critics everywhere in the world like Salman Rushdi ,many others, and now Geert Wilders. You can not tell me that I do not know Islam and Islam is something else. I am grown up with this religion. It has mercy until you observe its commands. But when you reject, it has ruthless commands to vanish you from the ground. And if you see somewhere Islam is Moderate, be sure that it has not been able to gain the power yet.
An a word to non Muslims; you should remember that most of Muslims have no faults they are only born by name. They do not believe it in their mind. They can not escape from it.
