Reuters reports: At least four Indonesian firms providing Internet services have blocked access to the YouTube Web site for carrying the Dutch lawmaker’s film that accuses the Koran of inciting violence, an information ministry official said.
At the time of this announcement the telecommunication firms PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) and PT Exelcomindo Pratama Tbk, and Internet provider Indonet had blocked access to YouTube.
News of Friday April 11: Internet providers in Indonesia have restored access to YouTube and similar websites.
The government blocked the sites earlier this week to stop people from viewing Fitna, the anti-Islam film produced by Dutch MP Geert Wilders. The authorities argued that the film disrupts religious and social unity at a global level.
