Hi Howard.
Charged by serendipity, I wanted to say hello in response to seeing your video on Digg’s frontpage just now.
The serendipity part is that I’m reading Smart Mobs right now in expectation of taking your class in the Fall @ the iSchool. Just today on the BART I was reading the section on “the commons” and your musings on early network communities.
Upon getting home, my interest piqued, I looked up information on the PLATO system and the MORIA multi-user game I played as a 7 year old from the Fort Ord Army base where my Dad worked nights as a civilian instructor. At the time, G.I.s and other instructors around the country would generously partner up with me and guide me through dungeon adventures. Talk about primitive social networking.
And what is this, the game still exists some 33 years after it’s birth? Amazing! http://www.cyber1.org/
Anyway, I’m enjoying the book and look forward to your class this Fall.
Serendipitously yours.
