CrowdSPRING Takes Crowdsourcing to a Whole New Level
May 21st, 2008

Crowdspring.com was launched last week and Pete Burgeson noted that the team was inspired by the book, “Smart Mobs” and it’s theories of crowdsourcing and communities.

Crowdspring tests crowdsourcing on a bigger scale by allowing users to post about their project needs, giving a firm deadline and a pay scale. Rather than the user accepting bids for the work, they accept completed work that itself is a bid for the job. The user chooses the work that best fits their project and pays the person who created it.

The community offers protections for both the user and creatives. Find out more about how Crowdspring works.

Hi Michelle - thanks for writing about crowdSPRING. In building crowdSPRING, we’ve introduced very unique features - including legal contracts, full project management, escrow/payment. We think these and other features will make crowdSPRING a great option for small and midsize businesses and for designers around the world. We really do think its an innovative approach and we’re glad you noticed.

Best,

Ross

Looks interesting but at first blush looks a lot like elance or ifreelancer? And these two offer a much broader scope and reputation management too. What stands out from these? That’d have been a really interesting thing to comment on.

Julian - thanks for your question. There is a fundamental difference between crowdSPRING and the two sites you mention - Elance and ifreelance. On those sites, buyers post requests for proposals (RFPs) and creatives submit proposals to do the work. That’s the traditional way creative services have been bought and sold. We’ve found (both through research, interviews and our own experience, that a great number of projects on traditional sites such as Elance and iFreelance do not get completed). crowdSPRING offers an entirely new way to buy and sell graphics services. A buyer posts a project and creatives from around the world submit actual designs - not merely RFPs. Buyers pick from actual designs. crowdSPRING offers legal contracts, full project management, choice, reputation management, porfolios, and top notch customer service. We believe that once a buyer purchases creative services using crowdSPRING’s new model - they’ll never go back to the traditional model. We’ve only been open for two weeks, but the reaction from the buyers (and creatives) has only reinforced our beliefs. We invite you to come take a look.

Best,

Ross
