What’s Your Idea? Challenge
September 25th, 2008

SmartMobs mobiist friend Debi Jones is participating in the Knight News Challenge as a judge for the 2008 – 2009 competition which will fund digitally innovative ideas — particularly from developers — in local news delivery through grants drawn from a pool of $5 million. The process starts with an application that is comprised of 3 to 4 questions. If the application is of interest, the developer will then be asked to submit a proposal which expands upon the application and includes 12 questions. Should the proposal be greenlighted, the Knight Foundation will assist the developer with preparing the project financials, if this assistance is desired. The News Challenge website has this invitation:

What’s Your Idea? You invent it. We fund it. . .
If you have a great idea that will improve local online news, deepen community engagement, bring Web 2.0 tools to local neighborhoods, develop publishing platforms and standards to support local conversations or innovate how we visualize, experience or interact with information, we’d like to see it! You have the opportunity to win funding for your project and support within a vibrant community of media, tech, and community-oriented people who want to improve the world.
