Technologies of Transition: Change.gov on the iPhone
December 16th, 2008

President Elect Barack Obama has recently authorized the release [After the Obama-Biden Transition Team adopted the Creative Commons - Attribution license for Change.gov] a version of Change.gov that was rendered for the iPhone on the Cerado Ventana platform. Change.gov is Obama’s effort to harness social-media to promote and establish an open, transparent public relations conduit. Personally, I am curious whether this application will really help encourage individuals to inform themselves of the “changes” occurring within the Obama administration. Furthermore, I wonder if such applications are truly “technologies of cooperation” with the ability to promote and sustain meaningful democratic participation.

Change.gov, the website of the Obama administration’s transition team, is now available for the iPhone.

FYI, the app hasn’t shown up in the store just yet. Might it still be on the way?

Hi, Mark-

Wanted to correct a factual error in your post. The content from Change.gov was put under a Creative Commons - Attribution license on 1Dec2008. It was as a result of this change in the content licensing that this iPhone web app and widget were developed.

The first sentence of “President Elect Barack Obama has recently authorized the release…” is incorrect.

It is correct to say “After the Obama-Biden Transition Team adopted the Creative Commons - Attribution license for Change.gov…” or the like.

Hi, Noah-

Piece of cake:

1) Bring up http://ventana.cerado.com/change/v/ on you iPhone

2) Then hit “+” at the bottom of the phone screen, then “Add to Home”

HTH,

Thank you Christopher Carfi for your kind correction!
