Send $10 to Red Cross by texting “Haiti” to 90999
January 14th, 2010

Certainly there are many ways to send your help to Haiti. Since our readers are mobilists, I am simply confirming that the 90999 is quick and easy. When I sent my text this morning, I received a message from the Red Cross allowing me to confirm or cancel. When I confirmed, I received another text saying: “Thanks! $10 charged to your phone bill for Red Cross Int’l Relief . . .”

Carlo Longino has posts at MobHappy with more about how Mobile Giving works. Also, a search for “90999″ at Twitter will give you a lot of commentary on the outpouring of help flowing through this texting.

UPDATE: Yahoo! News reports that “U.S. texting raises $10 million and counting for Haiti.” The Yahoo! report has details, including ways to participate.

I serve Christian ministries and churches as a grant writing consultant with Here-4-You Christian Grant Consulting and want people to know that there are similar options to donate to Christian ministries in Haiti.

One great opportunity is through Northwest haiti Christian Mission.

NWHCM is offering the option to donate toward our earthquake assistance efforts by texting “Support NWHCM” to 20222. Each text message will send a gift of $5 directly to relief and recovery work in Haiti.
