Send $10 to Red Cross by texting “Haiti” to 90999
January 14th, 2010

Certainly there are many ways to send your help to Haiti. Since our readers are mobilists, I am simply confirming that the 90999 is quick and easy. When I sent my text this morning, I received a message from the Red Cross allowing me to confirm or cancel. When I confirmed, I received another text saying: “Thanks! $10 charged to your phone bill for Red Cross Int’l Relief . . .”

Carlo Longino has posts at MobHappy with more about how Mobile Giving works. Also, a search for “90999” at Twitter will give you a lot of commentary on the outpouring of help flowing through this texting.

UPDATE: Yahoo! News reports that “U.S. texting raises $10 million and counting for Haiti.” The Yahoo! report has details, including ways to participate.
