Mobile Premier Award in Social Change
February 16th, 2010

redejovemYesterday,  Rede Jovem ( Youth Net Program) of Brazil was awarded the best startup using mobile technologies for social change. This award was selected by members of  MobileActive.org  in partnership with the Mobile Premiere Awards.  Rede Jovem is a self-organized youth network which harnesses social-media and mobile technologies and services to  map out the favellas of Rio de Janiero (areas which are literally blurred off the map on many online map-services.)

Rede Joven (Youth Net Program) is a initiative from Comunitas that has the mission to strengthen the low income youth from Brasil and stimulate their social and civic participation by providing access to new information and communication technologies(ICTs). “

I am incredibly impressed with the mission of Rede Jovem which empowers youth to strengthen their own communites throught the support of mobile technologies and social media.  There is a video floating around which encapsulates Rede Jovem mission well.  I will post htis once I find it here.  Para bems Rede Jovem!mobileactivefile73mpa_125x125_logo
