Mobs of tweeters take filibuster viral
December 10th, 2010

filibuster
Let SmartMobs record here the first (at least to my knowledge) major “going viral” of the live United States Senate. As the image above shows, #filibernie and BernieSanders are the top Trends on Twitter during the afternoon of 12/10/10. As the ArthurDelaney tweet in the image notes:

Sanders filibuster so popular it “temporarily shut down the Senate video server”

Is this granular journalism? What impact does it foretell on the proceedings of elected representative bodies in a democracy? My instincts are positive. For sure tweet mobbing brings immediacy to government transparency. The phenomenon may have implications for both the voice of the individual citizen and influence from the wisdom of the crowd.

Fascinating. Go Bernie!
